No. Velveteen is a woven fabric with a short, cut pile on one face. Fleece is a knit that is brushed fuzzy on both faces. Both are polyester, and both are warm, but they behave differently on a couch and in a washer.

What 300 g/m² means in practice
Grams per square meter is the weight of the fabric, and it is the number that tells you how warm and how heavy a blanket is. Our velveteen is about 300 g/m², which puts it in the middle: warm enough for a couch in a heated room, light enough that a 50 × 60 in throw weighs well under 2 lb and does not pin your legs down. It is not a winter comforter, and it is not a weighted blanket.
Why we print on velveteen
The crest artwork on our throw blankets is dye-sublimated: the ink turns to gas and bonds with the polyester fibers. A smooth, short pile takes that print sharply. Fleece and minky both soften the image because the fibers are longer and stand up. That is the whole reason the same design looks crisp on velveteen and slightly fuzzy on a minky blanket from another shop.
What velveteen is not good at
- It is single-sided. The pile and the print are on the front. The back is a plain white woven face, smooth but not plush.
- It is not as thick as sherpa. If you want a blanket you sink into, this is the wrong fabric.
- It shows the nap. Brush it one way and it looks lighter; the other way, darker. Some people love this; it is worth knowing.
Care
Machine wash cold, tumble dry low, no bleach, no iron. Velveteen pills far less than fleece because the pile is anchored in a woven base. Full instructions are on the Size & Care page.
