Silk Crowns draws illustrated pet crests and prints them to order on velveteen plush throws. The shop is run by The Birch Post LLC, a New Mexico company.
The name
The crests are drawn like heraldry: a portrait in a bronze frame with a banner underneath. Velveteen has the hand of silk without the price. Put the two together and you get Silk Crowns.
What we sell
Each design is a portrait of a person and the animal they live with, printed on a white velveteen throw. Most are cat portraits, such as Real Men Love Cats and Maine Coon Dad. One, My Besties, puts two dogs and a cat in the same frame for the houses where they share a couch. The current range is on the blankets page, and one crest is also printed on a tee.
Every blanket comes in three sizes, 30 × 40 in, 50 × 60 in, and 60 × 80 in, on the same polyester velveteen blank at about 300 g/m². The print is on one side. The back is plain white velveteen.
How a blanket is made
- You choose a design and a size.
- The order goes to our print partner, which routes it to the facility closest to you. For US orders that is usually a facility in the United States.
- The facility dye-sublimates the artwork into the velveteen, sews the edges with a double-needle topstitch, checks the blanket, and ships it with tracking.
Nothing is kept in stock, so nothing sells out and nothing sits in a warehouse. The trade is time: printing and delivery take about three weeks rather than two days. The exact windows are in the Shipping Policy.
Who it is for
People who live with a cat or a dog and want that on the couch, and the people buying for them. Several designs lean toward cat dads on purpose: the man asleep under four tabbies, the Maine Coon dad with a laptop and a mug, the redhead with his orange tabby. They are gifts that say the giver knows exactly who you are.
